Catalina Rum Company
Vintage travel inspired labels turn rum running lore into a shelf ready keepsake.
-
Catalina Rum Company captures the island’s rum smuggling past and adventurous spirit in every pour. Inspired by vintage travel posters and crafted as keepsakes for visitors, these bottles evoke clandestine tales taking flight, from seaplanes over sunlit harbours to flying fish gliding across shimmering seas. The concept, illustration, typography, copy, and label design were created to evoke Catalina Island and its lore. Research into architectural details, historic photos/postcards, travel inspired compositions and ephemera informed the light/dark rum system, arched label shape, border design, layered scenes, the translucent map feature. A Catalina seaplane was chosen for the light rum and a flying fish for the dark rum, each reinforcing the story and tone of their respective blends. The scenes were composed to feel like the story is flying out of the bottle.
The bottles are sold at the restaurant and featured in the drink menu, with additional retail placement in liquor stores.

The label system clicked when flight connected the bottles: seaplane for light rum, flying fish for dark rum, and clear glass revealing a hidden map across both.
